I live in the U.S. now,but I grew up in the UK in the 1970′s,and was lucky enough to experience the original Doctor Who series in the ‘Golden Age’ of Jon Pertwee, and Tom Baker. Barry Letts helped to guide the show into that amazing era,and to all fans of that original,and still THE BEST version of Doctor Who he will always
be remembered. God Speed my friend.

I can’t say how disappointed I have been with the newer version of the series as the majority of the storylines,and writing has been ridiculous,and disrespectful to the legacy of the original. It’s been really quite comical at times. Russell T Davies has made a complete mess of it all. The BBC should never have brought it back.

I don’t suppose this will get posted,but I just wanted to say thankyou to one of the true geniuses of that Golden Age.

Barrys years with tom baker and john pertwee,put morals in to the storys,a sort of way, taught children right from wrong,and a lot of facts on life and science that were true,things you dont find in television of today.
He is one of the true professionals

The man who saved Doctor Who after it was nearly cancelled 40 years ago and reinvented the show with a bigger budget, new studios( the sixties shows were made in the cramped and inadequate Lime Grove studios) and a new Doctor. Barry Letts saved the show and created the golden era of Pertwee and Baker with often gripping stories and huge audience figures.

I grew up watching Barry’s era of Doctor Who so to me, this is a great loss.

Thanks for everything Barry, it was fun.
