The most depressing story in television history

Sometimes reading Broadcast magazine can be the most depressing thing ever, and this week is no exception. We’re all aware that the team behind Saturday Kitchen, including Anthony Worrall Thompson, have defected to ITV, while BBC1 are continuing their show with a new host, James Martin (the ITV1 one is going to be called Saturday Cooks, fact fans).

Last week’s Broadcast suggested that, in addition, BBC1 were going to launch a Sunday morning spin-off, apparently called Sunday Brunch, which is going to be “more celebrity and gossip-based”, whatever that entails, and apparently fronted by Andi Peters. Now this week tells us… ITV are going to do that as well! And they want Andi Peters as well!

Here’s an ITV spokesperson quoted in Broadcast: “He’s not signed up yet to anyone at the moment and I would love to see him on the show we’re doing. But he has his options to consider.” It also reports that the Beeb are trying to lure him over by making him main presenter of City Hospital, while ITV are offering him a million episodes of Dancing on Ice Extra.

Neither broadcaster seems to have realised, however, that a) this sounds like the crappiest concept for a TV show ever, especially on two channels at once, and b) it’s Andi Peters!

UPDATEITV have nabbed him. And – get this – Anneka Rice too!
