Back in the Red

So it’s official, Red Dwarf is definitely coming back.
It was confirmed this afternoon at UKTV’s press launch for new channels Watch, Alibi, GOLD and the autumn season of shows on Dave (where RD will screen).
Robert Llewellyn (Kryten) told assembled journalists: “It’s very new news to me. I really only fully heard the details yesterday. We’re doing four new shows – two of them are going to be proper new episodes of Red Dwarf. [The third programme] is so exciting I’ve been asked not to say anything because other people will steal the idea. And it is a great idea, quite challenging for us as performers. The [final programme] is a kind of behind-the-scenes… the truth… there’s been so many rumours and gossip about Red Dwarf, so all those things.”
He also let slip Doug Naylor will be writing. Expect blast off some time next year.
Thank goodness for that, though I’d love for Rob Grant to return too. Wonder if he’s been asked.
Very interesting, will it have the original cast, I wonder?
It’s a shame there was never a RD film, it was certainly more worthy of one than many other TV series..
Very interesting news…
Strange isn’t it? Telly seems to be changing quite a lot lately – once upon a time, something like a Red Dwarf revival would never have been premiered on a satellite channel.
Intrigued to find out what the 3rd episode is all about. I wonder if it is something akin to the Tribbles thing they did on Star Trek?
Adrian – yeah, I should have said. The original cast have been confirmed. No news on peripheral characters though. Although, hopefully there won’t be any.
No Kochanski please!
By original cast I hope you mean Claire Grogan
