After the inauspicious opening episode, David Tennant’s tenure in the TARDIS is developing into a rather rewarding series, in many ways superior to the show’s debut run last year. Read more

I am a number

Being possibly the only science-fiction genre television watcher to have only seen one episode of The Prisoner, and with only a passing idea of what the series is about, I’m slightly non-plussed that Christopher Eccleston would decide to do only one series of Doctor Who before falling headlong into the starring role of Number Six in a revival of Patrick McGoohan’s 1960s series. Right, we know the form by now. I go to a Doctor Who launch then, gradually as I transcribe the roundtables, dump some of the off-cuts on here. So, let the offal tray take its first delivery courtesy of Camille Coduri talking about David Tennant’s success in stepping into the title role. Read more

“Oh, and if you spot one Cyberman at the back who’s a little bit slower than all the others, that’s Gethin from Blue Peter.” So quipped Russell T Davies at the latest Doctor Who launch, held last night at the Apollo West End in London. Read more

Despite my disgraceful grumping about last Saturday’s Doctor Who, I’m, obviously, still hopelessly devoted to the show and thus excited to an equally disgraceful degree when I get to interview any of the cast. This afternoon, it was a telephone call to Elisabeth Sladen. Yer actual Sarah Jane Smith! Read more

“I’m the new new Doctor,” chortled David Tennant through that toothy grin. And here, it seems, was the headline news from the start of Doctor Who‘s much anticipated second run. Read more

For some of us, now is the time when our hard-drive recorders come in very handy. Unlike Graham, who was fortunate enough to have attended the Doctor Who press event the other night, us lot had to retune our Sky Digiboxes to BBC Wales last night to catch some of the first glimpses of the new series, or try to see clips on one of the breakfast programmes when we should have been at work. So, I’m back from Cardiff and the Doctor Who series two launch. As per the Guardian’s grumblings, info about the event is embargoed until tomorrow, so I’ll punt some stuff up on here then.

Paul Abbott was there, though.

So, it’s official, then. And once more I’m gearing up to go Doctor Who nuts as the new series’ press launch has been confirmed for March 28 in Cardiff. The invites are ebay-ably attractive – David T, Billie P and an in-a-spin TARDIS on one side, some generic landscape shot on the other; both adorned with Photoshop whispy bits of business. Read more

So the good Doctor didn’t get quite as many viewers as predicted, but 9.8 million is pretty remarkable for a children’s science-fiction adventure at any time of the year, especially one up against Sir Terence of Wogan on the other side. Read more

It didn’t sound like the most promising idea in the history of Doctor Who. And this from a series that, for this casual fan, had more or less died at the moment an enemy heavily indebted to Bertie Bassett lumbered on screen. Read more
